Scattered forums with unique users are better IMO. Sites like reddit try to shoehorn a bunch of unique cultures and interests into a single place, which works about as well as it does IRL.
Edit: the only reason "one stop shop" sites like reddit even exist at all is to be attractive targets for investors trying to maximize the profitability of the site. It benefits them, not you.
