There's already a large chunk of Russia within its current borders, that is west of the Volga.

For the most part in its last millennia Russia has spent more time fending off threats to its own borders by various vandals, vikings, and Khans. The mostly empty Russian far east/China area is a big concern for them considering China's bursting billion and a half people and Russia with only 150 million spread across 10 time zones.

Insofar as borders go, the Russians have other fish to fry. The Crimea doesn't really count, that area has been the land of the Rus for a very long time.
