Q got followers by giving air to actual conspiracies.

He/they just presented no solutions and left people hanging. It doesn't mean they just made tinfoil hat shit up. (I question the "all the celebrities including Tom Hanks and Ellen are all pedophiles" angle, but I think that was more pushed by weird blogs and twitter accounts than actual Q stuff.)
