For what it's worth, I'm moving to the Michigan upper peninsula. Yes, I'm aware Michigan is CURRENTLY run by a democrat but I think that's about to change and for a long time.
As I reckon it, you need to be someplace close to a national forest, because you need to be able to deal with short tern disruptions in food and fuel.
