I'm so tired of seeing this cycle play out. There are two sensible reactions to abuse received online. If it's a threat, report it to the police. If it's just mean words, fucking ignore it. There are huge numbers of people interacting online, the broad number of these interactions are positive or polite, yet repeatedly people choose to fixate on the minuscule number of negative interactions and then play the victim card.
When Sonja McLaughlan posts "In my car crying. Hope you're happy." she's either unimaginably stupid or playing the game for sympathy points. Does she seriously think that anyone who was abusing her will rethink their actions because she's upset? That was their goal, you silly bint. I imagine they're delighted that you've been reduced to blubbing in your car.
There are some wonderfully retarded argument put forwards in this article. I could go through them all, but that would take all day. I think my favourite is "A declaration of war is only words too". No it isn't you simpering pearl clutching buffoon. A declaration of war is made when a nation decides to engage the entirety of their military might against a foe. Making a clumsy analogy comparing this to what happened to Sonja McLaughlan only serves to highlight how utterly ludicrous your argument is.
