These people don't care about the characters they're race bending or the stories they're hijacking. It's never been about that. It's about planting their flag on another piece of intellectual property, and shouting "ha-ha it's ours now and you can't have it."
Made obvious by the premise having apparently little to nothing to do with mysteries and not even including Scooby-Doo himself.
I think they are taking an existing IP for the same reason they are constantly doing remakes, they’re afraid of failure.
Look at comics. They haven’t been able to create a minority superhero with an interesting story, so they’ve resorted to race swapping the existing ones.
It’s the same here. I mean why have Velma without the van and the dog? It’s because she’s an example of a successful nerdy character, and they think they will bomb if they don’t follow the recipe.
