What do the covid vaccines actually do?

Hi guys. I've been seeing claims on here that the vaccines do not actually prevent you from catching the virus and instead just reduce the symptoms if you do catch it. Are there any sources on this anywhere?

They make a lot of money for corporations that otherwise dont' give two shits about your life.
