imo Paladin was always black - they just made him blacker.

The real question is how they have managed to fuck up basically every single model in one way or another.

He was voiced by Larry B. Scott (who is black) and in general the character model looked was probably based on Arab with a bit of African mixed in. In the game world it always felt like he was right at home in Lut Gholein.
