I agree GG probably believes that Floyd was killed, since, as of now, I generally trust him to say what he really thinks. But he didn't have to write it here. It's not important to his thesis, and he must know it's controversial in some quarters, yet he consciously decided to phrase it this way in this piece.
So, my speculation was that this was a signal to other liberals that he's still one of them. Otherwise (GG thinks) they might dismiss him as far-right.
He has nothing to lose by appealing. He might at least get a charge thrown out, as Mohamed Noor did. And he has numerous grounds to ask for a new trial. Just as one example, an activist lied to get on the jury.
Appeal judges are always reluctant to grant a new trial, but when you're facing long years in prison, it's worth a shot.
I suppose this article is aimed at his fellow non-woke liberals. To those on the right or media critics, this is very old news, and all it offers is some recent (admittedly appalling) examples of media smears.
Perhaps this explains why he refers to "the George Floyd killing" (he wasn't killed) and warns that the overuse of labels will harm the stigmatization and ostracization of "actual racists", as though actual racists are a real problem. It would be as if it were common to label political opponents "cannibals". Isn't the important part that the accusation is untrue, not that it might cause the tiny number of actual cannibals to escape notice?
Immigration. Economic devastation can be recovered from, oppressive laws can be repealed, hollowed-out cities can be rebuilt, but if western countries are demographically absorbed into the Third World, the change is all but permanent, and additionally we'll have factions of squabbling ethnic groups.
To be sure, plenty of other causes are upstream. E.g., if CRT is taught in schools, a generation of young people will push for open borders because they believe white people are evil. Similarly, the war on free speech and tech censorship is making it harder to organize opposition to destructive policies. And prosecutions of any defending themselves and abridgement of gun rights thwarts local resistance. In short, a totalitarian state can force on us what the elite wants, which is the destruction of civilization.
Rust has always been SJW-infested. For example, one of their releases was basically an announcement supporting Black Lives Matter. It is unfortunate, since Rust is a technically innovative and interesting language.
It's not just Rust. Every page of https://go.dev/ has "Black Lives Matter" atop, even now. And then there's Isaac Z. Schlueter of Node.js and his minions....
This ruling says the 1st Amendment doesn't apply if violent leftists don't like your opinion. They can just attack you and then blame you for the violence and get a court to agree. This is a travesty.
As for what went down in Charlottesville in 2017, see my review of the book Charlottesville Untold.
Also see this recent VDARE article on this verdict.
Better judged by 12 than carried by 6.
See my brief review of Charlottesville Untold, a book which covers the events of that day and the media's lies.
Just to respond to one point, it was correctly observed that several later annotations on Anne Frank's diary were written with a ballpoint pen. This gave rise to the misunderstanding that the original was all written in ballpoint, which is untrue. You can easily look this up.
She's already out of her "Social Media Manager" job for the Democrats.
What is that thing?
But CNN told me that the biggest threat is angry white men! How can this be?
That phrasing was confusing. No civilians were hit by the discharged weapon. But unfortunately many were hit by the vehicle.
CloudFlare dumped 8chan for no reason. (Yes, a manifesto was posted there, and quickly removed by moderators, so what, that's social media.) So, no, they cannot be trusted. On the other hand, they have been more free-speech supporting than most other tech companies, and the left can't wait till Matthew Prince, the CEO, retires or dies and is replaced.
See Joshua Moon's article on this.
There may not be any large tech corp that doesn't at least partly capitulate to woke. You just can't exist in that industry without its pressure and influence. CoinBase has somewhat resisted with their no-politics rule.
Notably, Stripe threatened to cut off VDare.com several months ago, but has not yet done so (whereas PayPal did in 2017).
The defense's behavior is incomprehensible. At least aim high and let the judge say no (which is appealable).
This is not just about this case. If a saint like Kyle can't defend himself against rioters and arsonists and pedos, even when numerous video recordings all show clear self-defense, then none of us can. That's what they're going for here.
IANAL, but to me this looks like a clear-cut Brady violation. Add it to the list of the DA's violation of Kyle's constitutional rights.
If 10 think he is innocent, a conviction is highly unlikely. Either the holdouts will be worn down (which frequently happens), or there is a hung jury. Even a hung jury can acquit on some of the charges, and he can't be retried on those.
Oh and the prosecution's case was epically bad.
There are six alternates who can step in, so perhaps those two should "call in sick" and be replaced.
The prosecution probably knew his identity but kept it hidden so his background wouldn't come out.
Supposedly stomach sleeping is correlated with headaches.
Great summary, and I agree it's bad. This case should be a slam dunk, open-and-shut self-defense. And there's a real chance his defense is blowing it. Indeed, many cases are lost in jury selection.
These monsters who are out there trying to smear and destroy a kid who showed far more restraint and discipline than BLM deserved, who are staging die-ins, who talk like he's a mass shooter à la Sandy Hook (looking at you, Facebook), who got Kyle booted off of GoFundMe and the like, who terrorize people at their homes and get them fired from their jobs for kicking him a few bucks, they need to be defeated. If even a total sweetheart like Rittenhouse isn't allowed to defend his life, that means none of us are.
We've seen Michael Strickland, we've seen the McCloskeys, we've seen Jake Gardner (RIP). BLM/Antifa can burn homes and businesses and pelt cops with bricks and suffer no consequence, but lift a finger to defend yourself from these demons and the whole force of the law will smash down on you.
So yeah I'm panicked about this case. Not just for this innocent kid but for all of us.
Can someone tell me what an "insurrection flag" is?
Here's the actual tweet.
