The TV show version of The Mist was really bad from the beginning and only got worse. I loved the story growing up and liked the movie as well and was excited that they had made a show based on it. But there was one redditor-type character who was just insufferable. The real horror was what they did to a once decent story. I'd give more examples but I don't want to spoil it for the masochists out there who would still watch it anyways.

I only watched the first season of Billions and it wasn't that bad. After one episode of season 2 with the "they/them" character I felt like the handwriting was on the wall and put it on the backburner.

The Mentalist.

For those not familiar with it, it's a show about an expert cold reader whose family was murdered by a serial killer. So he starts working with the police as a consultant to help them solve crimes all the while trying to catch the serial killer who killed his family. Like a much darker version of Psych or any of the other Sherlock Holmes style detective shows out there.

But there's this one episode (4-21, "Ruby Slippers") where the case of the week involves a bunch of drag queens. I remember watching that episode late at night and I was falling asleep and the whole thing just felt so out of place like a bad dream. It was no longer a show about a guy tracking the serial killer who murdered his family so he could get revenge. It was no longer a show about some expert helping the police solve crimes in his own way. And it wasn't an episode to pad the season. It felt just like it was a "very special episode" that existed for the sole reason of presenting a social justice message. It's been so long since I watched that show (and I never finished the last season) so I can't say the whole show went woke, but that episode did.

I never understood the "an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind" saying. It's pretending like there aren't selfish assholes (with both eyes) out there striking first and going for the eyes of others. Defending yourself and striking back is going to make everyone blind how exactly?

And while we're hoping for the impossible, can we get stalls where there isn't a gap big enough to fit a grapefruit between the doors? Why do so many people want to watch others use the toilet? I can't imagine any other reason why there is so little privacy in the bathroom.

MGTOW is still toxic. AWALT with zero room for nuance.

So all men going their own way are toxic, but NOT all women are "like that?" I'm not saying YOU are a hypocrite, but that statement does come across a wee bit hypocritcal. How is MGTOW toxic? Disclaimer, I'm not a MGTOWer, but bitter old divorced dudes who don't want to play the game any more doesn't sound very toxic.

Many women dont initiate divorce because they are trying to move up. Its because MEN were not in their masculine. They didn't lead or provide a safe place for the woman. Men are out here having sex with anyone, cheating, not using protection then walking away from their children. Men are chosing women, ignoring every red flag because "dat ass" then when they get burned they hope on the MGTOW train but still focus on women.

You know goddamn good and well not all men are like that and yet you are setting up a bullshit strawman.

But then i saw it was a massive circle jerk of blaming women for everything, taking zero accountability for their actions, working on themselves to become a better man and healing their wounds.

It's my understanding that men go their own way to focus on themselves and become a better person and heal their wounds. So if a guy becomes a bitter asshole and blames his ex wife for the divorce and decides to not get remarried, he's still an asshole? Are you honestly suggesting there are no situations where a marriage can fail solely because of the woman? Or can a man just "lead and provide a safe space" and "be masculine" and the marriage will be perfect? It looks you are saying men are damned if they do and damned if they don't. Both men AND women make mistakes. There's no perfect course of actions for either sex that will guarantee a perfect marriage. Men who fail their wives and blame them are just bad (and just as common) as women who fail their husbands and marriage.

Women want men that are leaders. Not emotionally stunted children. These communities are great for the rage period but you can't dwell in that forever.

Is that ALL women that want men that are leaders? And what do men want? What do ALL men want? I thought "women want men that are leaders" or "alpha men" was red pill bullshit?

Want to know what I think? Every time I see a woman online complaining about men I think, there's a woman who has sadly encountered some really shitty men. Every time I see a man online complaining about women I think, there's a man who has sadly encountered some really shitty women.

I'll admit I don't know, and at this point I don't really care anymore. I just know I'm a fascist because I'm not a communist. That's how it works, right?

They think there are an infinite number of sexes on a gender spectrum. But political orientation can be reduced to just Nazis/Fascists/Twumpers versus The Right Side of History™.

It's like when they put those disgusting pictures on packs of cigarettes to discourage people from smoking. Do women have to look at things like this before having an abortion? Maybe they should.

I'm from the south and I've heard it. I don't say it and it's not common but there are people who talk like that. But I 100% agree the story is probably mostly fake or cherry picked with examples to exploit people's empathy and emotions. Kind of like how late shows used to (maybe they still do) go out and interview people on the street and ask them questions like "how many states are in the US?" or "who is the current president?" and I'm betting the overwhelmingly majority know the right answers but they only showcase the funny retards who give stupid answers. Right now we see that in this article, they are arguing using extreme examples. I think things really do suck out there, but at the end of the day someone has to foot the bill and if a lot of people are bleeding the system dry then who is going to pay for all these handouts? I got my own car note to worry about for fuck's sake. ?

Had the same thing happen to me at Taco Bell a couple weeks ago. They had to bring out the food after a long wait and apologized (but because they were still short-staffed) and offered a coupon for a free taco. What a class act. That's the first fast food establishment that I've seen that has stepped up and apologized and offered a coupon in the past year and it wasn't even that long of a wait compared to other experiences I've had. For me, that earns them a Taco Bell instead of a Taco Hell. It's the fucking little things like that that make a difference. The brown, meat-flavored oatmeal in my burritos was even still warm by the time I got home.

People who can work but chose not to because they are making bank off of benefits are living off of those of us who DO work. I'm sure they all have excuses, but the fucking fact remains, there are plenty of jobs out there. Are they shitty jobs? Yeah definitely. But those deadbeats should have some dignity and stop expecting me to pay their rent. My job isn't the best and I'm barely scraping by as it is but I still do it. It's an investment in my future. I knew several people last year who were making more money than me by sitting on their ass. But the jig is up now, things are opening back up. Can't say "oh but muh corona and muh no jobs and muh lockdowns" anymore. That gap on their resume is only getting bigger. And I'll admit I have more respect for those leeching deadbeat parasites exploiting the system than I do for the pieces of shit like the yellow journalist who shat out that article.

Aleetha Dixon, who lost her job working at trade shows last year and is caring for a disabled son, said the problem is not that the benefits are too high, but that competing wages are too low.

Yeah, because everyone on the teat is caring for a disabled child that they have to beg people to watch while they don their hazmat suit and speed from business to business trying to find a job. When there are more people willing to work and pay into the system and support it, then we can have UBI and properly care for people and provide a social safety net. Someone has to throw money into the pot before greedy hands can reach into it and help themselves. And I don't give a fuck if they are a democrat or a republican. Why are you making that distinction mr shitty NPR hack?

Thank you for the great summary. I put a lot of hours into the game but never finished it and the story just seemed so contrived and stupid I stopped caring. The gameplay is really fun though I'm not really sure if it's worth the (woke) price of admission. Luckily I waited and got the complete version for like ten bucks and feel I did get my money's worth from the gameplay and graphics point of view. Because who doesn't like blowing up robot dinosaurs?

The recurring theme of the game is her dumping on the 'superstitious' beliefs of the tribes even though Aloy has literally no more knowledge than they do and no justifiable reason for doubting the supernatural beliefs. She's just portrayed as intrinsically smarter than everyone for no reason.

Maybe because she was raised by a man? If the menfolk have to shoulder the blame for all of the problems in their society, then surely Rost is entitled to some credit for making Aloy into someone a little bit better than the rest.

I'm not saying a true matriarchal society has ever been tried and would turn out just like the backwards bullshit in the game. But having worked in environments with lots of women of a certain type I can see it trending in that direction over time.

Am I the only one that thinks new Aloy looks like ogre Fiona from Shrek?

So if I like Asian women I'm racist, but if I DON'T like Asian women I'm racist. What if I catch teh gay and like Asian men? Is that acceptable?

Isn't the building itself "artwork" under this logic?

Remember that story about the Chrysler Building not appearing in the Spider-Man Miles Morales game because of copyright issues? Why do some people have the right to the images of their property and others do not? Is a developer not entitled to the sweat of his own building?

I always hated graffiti and I always had the sneaking suspicion that all of these "artists" don't put their own art on their own houses. Or maybe they do. Or maybe they're just like dogs pissing all over the place but would never piss on their own pillow or bed.

What was that 1 second of bad content? Or do I have to listen to 4 hours of sweaty ranting and hope I don't miss it?

Police Chief Medaria Arradondo said more than 100 officers have left the force — more than double the number in a typical year — including retirements and officers who have filed disability claims, some citing symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder linked to the protests over Floyd’s death.

That's just beautiful. Having your hands tied while criminals go wild is maddening to me, I bet it really was traumatic for cops.

Any criticism of Apple and people come out of the woodwork defending them. Like above and beyond giving them the benefit of the doubt. Total subservience. As you might guess I use Android personally for various reasons, but don't think I can't rant and rave about their bullshit too.

Also there was that post about Trump and H1Bs the other day. I was really shocked at the posts from people that felt entitled to be in the United States and "take" American jobs. I want to believe it was just salty Indians but I'm sure there were plenty of Americans who want open borders too. Look at all of the posts piping in with the usual talking points about how only the US has such a racist and xenophobic immigration system. Right? Then again with the topic and headline I'm sure it attracted lots of people ready to give their political opinion. There is definitely a lot of astroturfing going on. But I never thought of HN has a smaller forum as it seems very influential in the tech community.
