It's becoming all too clear I'm turning very quickly into a Linux guy, and I wasn't for a very long time. I just want my computer to leave me the hell alone, quit trying to help me, and quit trying to keep me safe.

I don't see why you don't think of yourself as a linux person, those are all the main reasons I switched.

If you're actually being serious about DOS though, god speed, people are still doing cool things with it.

As someone who has already read them, it's far too depressing to read it all again. Everyone should though. I look forward to the threads about it.

I haven't read the abridged version, but I can definitely attest to the original.

Good. This is the one article I hope isn't propaganda.

Because she's calling for more regulation to save the moral foundation of this country, and there's nothing more American than that, that's what we've been doing since prohibition and pietism. Nothing gets the news more excited when companies become big enough to join to corpofascist club and in this case they can advance regulations against the entire internet while focusing on speech. Nationalization will follow after a matter of time and then the abomination sews another power structure into itself.

Watched a Hoppe interview today where he expressed the same thing. They are literally not worth responding to.

Anarchists.

The Jolly Roger which most people here seem to confuse with "the black flag" is the flag of piracy and pirates. The ISIS flag is a black flag covered with the shahada, one of the pillars of islam.

If I had a neighbour who flew a solidly black flag I would have to bring them brownies and ask them how they became so based.

I do worry sometimes that Uncle Ted was 100% correct and I'm just too much of an addicted cyberpunk to change.

Fascinating, I was just going to welcome you to the community but I realized you have other posts here.

What did you think this community was about, because we literally exist because we are a reaction to the phenomenon you've identified.

Ah I have heard of the Groypers, I was just hoping they actually had met and talked formally. Attacking the right from the right is super based though, so cheers.

Nah, it's a pay to play always online hardcore FPS that's very expensive.

https://www.escapefromtarkov.com/

What high level play looks like:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nF5ULp60WyI

Normally anyway, if you use justemutarkov you can host a server and connect to it and enable super hard bots.

I still own a copy Tarkov from BSG, and it was the last game last year before I deleted windows that was making me hold on but once I was clued into server emulation I figured out how to run everything on linux.

It's also made by heavily armed russians which is inherently based. The gun modding system is a gun nuts dream and uses real world parts and brands.

The entire "Cosmere" is his term for his universe that spans multiple series and is wonderful. Mistborn, Stormlight Archive, and several stand-alones that also share fundamental magic/god/solar systems that to me is a uniquely mormon take on a fantasy universe and ways of thinking about the afterlife and death and such while still managing to take on more adult themes which is usually lacking in mormon culture and media. Stormlight and Mistborn specifically focus on those themes, and I feel especially the historical (in)accuracy theme is just everywhere in the story once you understand it. To me it could be described as a "archaeological" adventure where reality gets redefined over and over and as a IRL history buff and overall nerd it's like crack to me.

Malazan does look interesting after reading the wiki. The series spanning thousands of years across multiples continents also feels very "Sanderson" like to me. It also reminds me of L. E. Modesitt Jr. and the Saga of Recluse spanning like 20k years which I could also recommend, but Modesitt is very feminist in ways with several books being women POV who are fighting an oppressive male culture. I still love the series though as those women in his universe rather than becoming whiny commies become violent isolationists obsessed with both literal and magical order, and there's also some fascinating interplay between sci-fi and regular fantasy, trying to blur the lines, but I don't want to spoil.

I deeply love Wheel of Time. I've lost count of how many re-reads I've done.

HOWEVER,

Sanderson saved that fucking series. Both WoT and A Song of Ice and Fire just got lost on the way. Sanderson is at least 1/3rd globohomo like most mormons but fuck me the man can write both in terms of quality and quantity.

Never even heard of Malazan, I shall search.

So what can you do? Nothing

Digital liberty is within your grasp and you don't need to use operating systems that are complete spyware. You can use things like Linux or the BSD's, you can encrypt everything, you can hide behind TOR and VPN's, etc. The idea that you can do "nothing" is ridiculous. You can begin to take back your digital freedom right now. Will it take effort and sacrifice? Freedom always does. It is always worth it.

Software requires DRM, scared of the TPM? Learn about the high seas and learn about open-source. FOSS & Torrents offer far superior distribution methods and IP is basically fake and gay anyways.

Even with the only game I care about right now, Tarkov, I am playing it on Linux despite the fact that it doesn't support Linux and they would ban me from their servers if I tried to connect. Instead I'm running a open-source server as well that emulates the back-end just as I had my own private WoW server as a young teenager.

Beyond that, bravo fellow paranoid nutter.

I don't follow the outrage. He's fine with the post, he's fine with the content, you could re-post it right now, he just deleted it because of the title because of the possibility of legal ramifications. The video appears to be still up on a different post?

If you think his reaction is paranoid, you should be more paranoid.

Ralt 2 points ago +2 / -0

For sure, this is how Liberals think. I'm a huge fan of Sam Harris and today decided to click on one of his videos as I just haven't given up on him totally.

First 5 minutes was him justifying refusing to talk to Bret Weinstein because he's worried that people discussing their differences could lead someone to the wrong conclusion from his perspective. Standard enraging cathedral attitude where only the priest class can disseminate knowledge to the unclean once the matter has been fully decided. Open-air discussion of anything that matters is verboten and a faux pas rolled into one.

I'm a slut for Intelligence and Turrets, especially because the tree unlocks most of the advanced building and crafting as well.

When playing with friends I force myself to do a different tree and let them build or else I'll trivialize the whole blood moon thing and ruin the game for everyone really.

Microsoft dominated the market,

Dominating the market =/= having a monopoly. Sure, it definitely did then try to hook people on it's products. If you are so ignorant and dumb as to have bought their products, you deserve that. Stop buying garbage.

Great! And how many other people have even the technical know-how to go and jailbreak their iPhone and download apps in a way that open ups their phone to even more viruses and malware than otherwise?

Don't buy things that aren't fully functioning computers. I taught myself everything I know about computers and so the argument from ignorance holds zero water with me. I don't care if idiots suffer. Idiots are suffering all over the place over all sorts of subjects. If you care about having a computer that is under YOUR control....stop buying garbage.

This is seriously delusional. It's like saying that Twitter has not impacted you, even though these companies wield immense power over who is allowed to say what.

Please state exactly what Apple did that has impacted my personal life in anyway other than having to defend them against luddites and idiots. Please point to the instance where Apple "wielded immense power" over what I am allowed to say. I don't purchase their products, I don't use their platforms. I have never spoken and had apple do...fucking anything.

Same reason Microsoft had a monopoly even though Apple, Linux and UNIX existed. Both the Apple Store and the Google App store are monopolies, pushed by the companies on phones.

Just because the Government says it's a monopoly, doesn't mean I agree at all. Microsoft never had a monopoly, there were ALWAYS other choices. You can call these app stores monopolies all you want, I'll be happily downloading things from https://www.f-droid.org/, a free alternative. I don't remotely see whatever monopoly you claim exists.

Looks like it will take more beatings and abuse of power by these tech companies before people come to any sort of realization.

What beatings?! Using Apple is 100% voluntary. Nothing Apple has done has ever impacted me in anyway. The only "beatings" I see are equivalent to this activity:

https://cdn1.i-scmp.com/sites/default/files/images/methode/2018/03/30/6eb26174-33d7-11e8-9019-a420e6317de0_image_hires_130823.JPG

Meaning a bunch of blind people whipping themselves all by their own choices. Such horrible "beatings".

Fascinating, I didn't know that, the last time I was forced to help someone with their Mac the OS was still capable of executing arbitrary binaries.

Well, if they want to downgrade from selling actual computers to selling something like a console, that's their stupid and ignorant prerogative and I still don't approve of the government telling them they can't.

I'm completely fine with Win10S, in as much as I am "fine" with Windows, meaning I am completely unaffected by it. If people really want to buy these awful products because to them they aren't awful, godspeed.

2
Ralt 2 points ago +2 / -0

Couching your ideas and arguments behind a "majority" will win you no love from me. The majority, are retarded. For me, Apple is 100% irrelevant and they always have been which is why using the word "monopoly" just doesn't make any sort of sense. How have I been using non-apple phones and computers my entire life if they have a monopoly?

That's a strange way of saying that Apple should not abuse its market position to squeeze even more profits out of customers and other companies.

Apple should do whatever the fuck it wants and I'm not going to cheer for more central planning and economic interventionism. If you have slaved yourself to their awful products I...hope you enjoy it? As much as I disagree with buying their trash, I'm glad people are free to make that choice.

Ralt 2 points ago +2 / -0

But if Epic were allowed to run their own store on iOS, so would the wrongthinkers.

I don't understand whatever point you're making here.

If they really wanted to "run a store on iOS" there's literally nothing stopping them. As much as I despise apple, it's still a computer that you can write code on and release binaries for. Apple should have the right to ban whatever the fuck they want out of their App store. If you're such a cuck that you're going to chain yourself to the distribution tools of your business rivals, well, that sounds fucking retarded and like you're giving power over yourself in a way that you don't need to.

They could produce their app launcher and a store and fucking fornite and it can all work on OSX with zero issues. But the idea that Apple then has to be forced to sell it inside of their application? Fuck no I don't approve of that in anyway at all.

Goddamn right. No single person alive today has seen anything resembling real capitalism where it isn't the bitch of government intervention and central planning. We ARE the CCP economically and most people are just completely blind while they jerk off over "muh mixed economy".
