That theme song is great. Starts on a bit of a low point, almost implying you are gonna get some dark and dreary intrigue and then jumps into a much more hopeful tune. A perfect primer for a show that no matter how bad it gets the protagonist is gonna find a way out and solve the problems before him.
I miss when everything felt a lot more hopeful, when we didn't know the future was a mix of body mutilation, rampant insanity, government corruption (well we didn't expect tranny corruption), racists screaming racism at others and so on.

But this time it made no sense, William fucked up various samurais without any gear when he arrived in japan, he was chosen by one of the lords to represent his clan in a bid to inherit all of japan, and yet gets owned so fucking hard. But it doesn't end there cause they way they describe Yaguy's abilities mean he has an instant kill on any fight going forward and no threat from any of the other fighters since he can learn their styles and use it better than them just by seeing it.
Author would have to pull something out of his ass to make musashi (the likely winner in the end cause he is quickly developing underdog that won his match through a gamble) to justify Yaguy not ending the fight in seconds since his instant kill also stunlocks.....so he can kill you harder

Record of Ragnarok for example gets over this problem by being a "best of x" style tourney so no matter how OP someone is they will only score the one point and even then the balance is way better (though it has highly nonsensical moments it is fun to go through the fight and learn their backstory)
Since I don't watch TV (except to complain about the news) and don't go see movies I don't recall any one related to woke but I had a similar moment with manga.
It was in "Tenkaichi: Nihon Saikyō Bugeisha Ketteisen" one of those duel based combat mangas you see poping up now and then.
In the fight between William vs Yagyu Munenori I expected William to lose (these kind of mangas will often do this so not a surprise) but the way in which he lost, and the abilities of his opponent make it so that the writer will have to pull bullshit out his ass to have someone defeat him as he would be utterly invincible.
It just knocked the wind out of my sails so hard while the manga was enjoyable up to that point.
Then again it wasn't some amazing story but when your draw is the fights and you have a tournament that is layered you really can't just make a character that is impossible to beat and who could end every fight in seconds after the start.

Mostly right time right place to be honest. Brother and a "friend" wanted to start a company but had no capital. Me, my father and a big name accountant each placed money to start it up (with my father lending money to them to form their share). I handled most a lot of the decision making of the back end of the thing (type of business, filing papers and deciding on how to split shares so that they had a fair share of decisions, etc) so I ended up as CFO.
The "friend" bailed, the accountant died, our 1st few big projects got bad timing killed by google but now things are looking up (my brother is even getting minimum wage now) that said it has been a costly 8 years but hopefully it will fully pay off. As long as I get to have a comfortable life I'm fine with not having the traditional happy family thing.

The thing with the blacksmith is that you weren't just learning the trade, you were learning it by spending time with your dad (or mom for girls) and if he saw that you weren't cut out for it he would go find some mentor for you to learn with where you spent time with your neighbour and friend.
Education tended to be more personal and that was lost.
Every element that made society function has been lost through out the years and it's made festering wounds that now show themselves through mental illness of those lost in the system.
Cases like yours or mine are sort of the inbetween where we do feel lost in the system but haven't gone off the deep end (whether we manage to claw our way back and how is a personal journey that is hard to get help with).
People now lack motivation, we don't have a personal mentor/father figure to get us into a trade, we don't have the reward of a loving partner at home, we no longer have the bliss of ignorance or the happiness of lies.
We don't have the hope of bad kings meeting unfortunate ends or good kings living long lives, our corrupt leadership is less of a single man and more party based thus everything about our society is wounded and all the mentally ill are the symptoms of the festering.
On a brighter note though just cause a person is lost in the cracks doesn't mean they can't have a good life, that they can't have inner peace and find happiness. They just need to stop taking what other tell them is "happiness" and find a "happiness" of their own which they can path towards.
That white picket fence of the american dream (or your local equivalent) has become a path-less dream only achieved by stumbling into lucky encounters, it's time to find a goal that does have a path and chase it (which is hard to do but as long as one is alive you might as well find something to enjoy)

In ye olden times the blacksmith son learned to be a blacksmith, or of he wasn't cur out for it he might be taken to the baker to become his apprentice. Point being children were given purpose and something to work towards.
However at our current state everything is missing. You aren't given purpose as a child and instead dumped into a school that will generally teach you stuff that you most likely will never use.
You aren't given goals in life since women are ever more entitled and protected by the state. We live in a time where we have no direction and no carrot on a stick. Some people thrive in these environment, some of us however just aren't cut out for it and are falling through the cracks. Even worse when teachers and academia in general becomes what it is now
