The targeting of children has gotten so bad my mother doesn't ask for grandchildren anymore.

Are the suicide statistics still around 40 ?

If so then 30 turn back, 40 hang around which would leave 30% left which is amazing. Imagine pushing something with 30% success rate and horrible consequences 70% of the time

Her advice was....retarded to say the least.

Generally for the email you want two major things. Show formality (as it's not only important when dealing with your boss but also with clients) and that you did some research.

All the other stuff (previous experience, your qualifications and so on) should be in the annexed CV.

As for what I'd write....well it's been over a decade since I've done one but something like:

"Good morning Mr. X

I am Z and I am looking for a job as a (insert job title). I've seen that your business handles (insert work they do) and I think I'd be a good fit given (your relevant qualifications, just important bits as your full ones will be in CV).

I hope to hear back a favourable response and thank you for your time"

I'd probably have to correct for translations and cultural differences but generally I'd go with something like that while including things that show I did my research on their business as much as possible

Edit: also if you have an official title for the person you are sending it to that is better than Mr.

Doctor/Director and so forth

I meant that some people actually put Sir/Madam (as in they don't choose one but put both in the email) which makes it sound like you didn't bother to look up anything about the person and instead cover your ass by putting both.

As for how to start "Good morning Mr X." Is definitely the way I'd go about it. Also, at least around here, some people like to use stuff like Dr when they have a doctorate so if you find that out and start with " Good morning Dr X" you tend to get an even better start.

As a business owner (still small and struggling though) I'd more likely read something that starts with "Good Morning Mr. X" or just " Mr. X" than the ones that start with "Mr/Ms X" that kind of disregard for the actual person I'll only accept from my government (cause I don't have a choice)

Hopefully I can strangle HR in my own business to avoid infestation.

Edit: Also bare in mind that in my language you can tell gender from how the 1st name ends so no reason not choose either Sir or Madam

NotMacgyver 5 points ago +5 / -0

From my experience there are people who don't care if you use the gendered terms and just use their names, however this is after they give you permission to speak casually to them (of course this only applies to times when there is a clear difference in hierarchy) so you should always address them in the most formal way possible until they tell you otherwise.

That said I'm not in America (or any of the other very infected places) so it may differ. Though never use the "Sir/Madam" or "Mr/Ms" style on emails as nothing screams "I put in no effort whatsoever" than an email that starts with "Hello Sir/Madam last name ", basic research on who you're dealing with can go a long way.

Then again I also skipped most HR interactions so far so not the most qualified to speak on what causes those parasites to trash CVs that are sent in

I'm sure the insurance will pay when you invite someone to take your stuff. Totally not risking getting caught for insurance fraud if you file an insurance claim

NotMacgyver 6 points ago +6 / -0

Wait is the picture in the article her ? If so I think the people who paid for that deserve far worse than jail. Specifically shock therapy to their testicles everytime they decide to pay for something so.....low quality.

It annoys me more that they pay for trash than that they pay for worse porn, at least pay for quality

I too want to promote understanding. You see child, when you see one of these creatures you should grab the nearest sharp objects (pencils and pens work just fine you just need something) then you ask them politely to leave you alone.

If they do, great, now find the nearest adult you trust (likely your parents or other family members).

If they don't then you are in danger and need to act like nothing is wrong, the creature will then approach you, wait until you can stab it in the eye then run away as fast as possible, scream "pedophile" at the top of your lungs while you look for any adult that will actually stop the creature.

Next lessen we will go over how to properly tort...re educate the vile creature.

.....in Minecraft....of course

Recently (with the whole Velma thing) I rewatched the old shows (where are you?, the scooby doo show, what's new scooby doo and so on) and damn those were great.

Everyone had a defined set of skills (which became a bit more defined with each iteration, though Daphnee got a major upgrade with one of them), the mysteries were well done and they kept their focus on the mystery solving.

Then came in one of the modern ones adding relationship bullshit with velma trying to bang shaggy, the characters were dumb as hell and more focussed on having relationship meltdowns than solving any mystery and I just dropped that shit.

No wonder Velma was such a train wreck after that one. The slope is truly slippery.

I miss the competent skillful characters with each having their own skill set that they used to great effect.

Then portugal's is way too low. You see the 35% I mentioned earlier doesn't actually include the tax that is actually called income tax (as that tax for minimum wage is 0%) and having gone to look up the tables for it portugal goes up to 43.8% so they would take something like 54.5% from your salary and then tax your boss an extra 23.75% just to really make sure they kill the economy.

And people wonder why the rich spend money to avoid taxes.....

Imagine only getting 45.5% of your work paid while your boss has to pay 123.75% for it.

4
NotMacgyver 4 points ago +4 / -0

I'm curious how they got these numbers cause I see Portugal at 48% but since I deal with minimum wage and workers that are also owners the value I'd get is around 35% so if we take into account the average of everyone, and workers who don't own their own business then 48% seems achievable but I'd like to see the math.

Fun fact the minimum wage worker will only see 11% tax on his salary even though the number is so much higher (I expect the same thing happens in other places).

In my experience with light novels the translation can vary so drastically between different translators that it can go from ,an absolute joy to read, to unreadable gibberish, even when it's the exact same chapter of a story.

Reading the fan translations of something like Overlord or TBATE was a very pleasant experience. They use simple language with well written description so you can easily picture what is happening in a scene.

On the other hand while reading a comedy Isekai about instant death about midway through the translator changed and it became so bad I can only imagine it's what trying to read with a brain aneurysm feels like.

Yes. Half of it is so poorly translated that most meaning goes out the window and the other half is in Brazilian which has very noticeable grammatical differences.

Also the last interesting, somewhat fantasy, book that came out from my native language was in 1572.

So I'd much rather read stuff in English where at the very least I can find translations that try to keep the meaning intact.

"Hide your junk in your trunk" by Big Mike O.

Now in every store near you.

From the best selling author of such hits as "Gap in the wage. Gap in the brain", "How big is big Mike, an autobiography" and "How to put the O in Obama"

The book quality is the same they just don't have the bribes or awards here which I think makes it even more sad....though on the other hand bribes are barely disguised here, we haven't reached the hiding bribes as buying art stage yet.

We here are openly corrupt because we don't give you a choice of non corrupt politicians. And when the peasants get uppity just send in the scapegoat.

Don't think the Chinese would buy the ones from my country but yes those kinds of books.

Chinese policy in my country is to just outright buy our infrastructure, no need for subtlety around here as our government will sell everything to the Chinese. I wouldn't be surprised if they started outright selling people at some point.

The bookstores around here that I used to know turned into coffee shops where you can read....sadly I hate coffee shops and reading in my own language so I'll stick to English translation of light novels for my reading fix.

Though the idea of grabbing a drink while reading sounds good in theory I'd rather be in the comfort of my own house reading something I picked instead of the weird collection of stuff bookstores sometimes keep.

Doesn't help that it's all pretentious advice books written by ex politicians who want to make it look like they don't deserve to get shot in the head for stealing money.

I just want some fantasy or sci-fi adventure but that was too much to ask from a bookstore the last time I went to one.... admittedly quite some time ago

To answer the title, No. You can have competent or incompetent tyrannical dictators/benevolent leaders so competence doesn't really matter for if they are one or the other.

For the actual thought on the other hand humans can take quite a bit of a beating if they have their basic needs guaranteed to them.

However running a system well doesn't mean that the result of said system is a comfortable life, case and point a system that discriminates against a group can be run competently and it would still make those people miserable.

But you could in theory have a benevolent dictator who simultaneously is tyrannical and gives his people a good life. Some dictators start out as benevolent dictators, gathering all that authority to fix some Illness in their community only to turn into normal dictators once their initial goals is done and that power starts to corrupt them (it's hard sometimes to let go of such a life).

I think the left wouldn't ever be able to keep the people happy with how they treat them even if they ran everything perfectly, discontentment would just grow in people after a while and cause major revolts.

You want to treat people fairly if you want to go tyrannical so that they can become docile, any preferential treatment should be based on what actions a person has done and not on some immutable characteristics they have so that the poor oppressed citizen can direct their efforts into rising up the ladder rather than plotting your downfall.

If a person doesn't have many luxuries because they aren't working hard they will be easier to control than if they don't have luxuries due to skin color for example. Unfairness due to immutable traits leads to growing discontentment which will then make people question why their life is so oppressed (which the dictator doesn't want)

The brunettes or blonds in question dye their hair to play redheads, if they can make a black person look like a white redhead without looking incredibly strange due to facial structure then go for it.

The problem. Isn't the actor not looking like the character, it's the character not looking like the character. If the actor for Ariel looked like the character but they made her a reverse mermaid, painted her face black, her hair green, and sea weed tattoos on her limbs I would also have a problem with it.

Though I'm surprised their defense involves people who paint themselves to fit the role considering their opposition to blackface.

Every person who does something will at the same time be going against and with progress because progress doesn't mean shit with defining what you are going towards.

A person moving towards slavery would can make progress towards it while going against the progress of anti slavery.

This is just another case of people using vague bullshit to trick people into thinking that something meaningful was said.

Or in other cases diluting the meaning of a word like when they say "X rights are human rights" and you have to remind people that human rights apply to all humans and so X rights are by their very definition not human rights. But that is a another can of worms.

Mine isn't that much different. My problem is never what they do to themselves but when they try to force it on others.

If they just kept to themselves and kept the minimum decorum of a regular adult I'd have zero problem with them. At most they would be an oddity mentioned in passing... In fact we used to have a cross-dresser around here and it was mentioned as that.

O (a masculine The) Vanessa was usually mentioned with Zé bêbado (Ze being the equivalent to the John of john doe, and bêbado being drunk) as the two oddities you would see around town sometimes and no one cared, since they didn't bother anyone....except the drunk used to throw bread at pigeons or ducks and the crossdresser had a rumor that he broke from stress.

But now they demand we tolerate them but they never tolerate us, they demand what they don't give back. Maybe it was because I was young back then but for a while we had a live and let live mentality that was working so well until the left kept making demands and accusing everyone of some sort of ism.

That was my expectation before a scientist got booted for proposing the same thing a decade or so ago.

Instead we got the retarded arguments to test how ideologically pure we are.
