About Indy's house, I get the impression he's barely there. He probably just got a modest house by the university he works at, and sleeps there when not on digs. Also in TGC Indy gets fired, does get rehired by Brody gives him a speech about how Indy is always ticking off the university board. He's not their favorite and they think giving him work is a favor. So they aren't keen on giving him positive actions of any kind, and probably pay him as little as possible.
