Many were just dumb kids, who had fun, learned some shit, maybe met the ‘love of their life’, and then moved on, perhaps with less naivety about the world, and less desire to suck up whatever bullshit their parents fed them.

Some went full “Big Lebowski”. Some burnt out.

But “the new left” is not the same as the hippie movement. They coexisted, and cross-pollinated, sure, but they are not the same people.

History isn’t as straightforward as you make it out to be. Even recent history…
