AI, as we know it, today, will not. It's trying to win a race by going half the remaining distance, over and over. Some future technology based on that, however, might be able to do an OK job. It's going to have to be worls-disrupting AGI, before a computer can make great games - a feat only a few humans can do, and usually not in demand.
You say AI can't overtake human abilities because it's imitating humans? Or is there some other reason? I don't think that reasoning works because we can judge and define what a good thing is even when we can't make it ourselves. Therefore AIs can be rewarded for output beyond human abilities. Heck, AI already goes beyond human abilities in producing photorealistic images and videos.
Regardless, an AI that has near human intelligence in science or engineering spells humanity's doom because it would be able to design low budget weapons of mass destruction and there's no way to prevent someone from having an AI do that. Unless AI development is heavily restricted to a few people (totalitarianism) or stopped entirely.
