Even in European folklore, witches lived on the fringe of society because they didn't fit in, and seduced children with offers of candy/empty promises, then preyed on them.
They were ugly and evil, depicted often with scraggly hair, big noses, black garments and pointy hats.
Surprised "nigawarai" isn't already on the ADL's hate speech list.
I mean, if you're going to go out on a limb, you might as well highlighted the 'with horns' as well. It was only a few decades before when Michelangelo sculpted that famous Moses statue with horns.
Consider how nasty the jewish sense of humor really is. I never found Woody Allen or Seinfeld funny.
There's probably something in the talmud about how confessing to being a terrible person "as a joke" absolves you of responsibility for such.

Dates don't really line up. Not to mention disgusting destructive behaviour isn't exclusive to an ethnicity.
Why does the nigawarai have a long nose and nose (its basically looks like a nazi caricurture of a jew) and have behaviours similar to jews?
It is odd that there was already a jewish community there and they absorbed the newcomers after the end of the period (1586 per the article posted). May have been something to it. It's not notable if the Nagasaki settlement had any particular power or influence, though Christianity was pretty big there (comparatively) and that's arguably one of the reasons it was chosen for bombing in 1945.
Could be jews, could be because he looks fucking ugly and that's how people's ugly nature must be visualized. But as i said, dates at least don't line up. If the style was invented within that period and some jews entered in 72 (and there were already only a hundred of them in there) i doubt this was the core inspiration. Though if the style itself arose from that location...

Yes 😏 it can be. There's literally thousands of kinds of yokai in every shape and form one can imagine. Many are harmless, but some are pretty nasty.
I'm sure if one looked hard enough, one could find a yokai with black skin & fat lips who eats all your watermelons & goes on welfare 😆
The Tengu is a jew, the Japanese think so there's a whole Japanese documentary made that was talking about how the Tengu were probably jews. . The Tengu even have a scroll called "tora scoll" (as in torah scroll). . If the Japanese think Tengus are jews whats to say the Nigawarai can't be jews
I'm not saying it isn't, just that it could be coincidence given the sheer volume of yokai.
The resemblance to modern caricatures of Jews is pretty uncanny though.
Turns out those "antisemitic caricatures" were more proto-memes than anything
Black skin and big lips is a lot of Yokai. They tend to be mischievous thieves as well.
So it will be hard to find one that isn't.
