Keep him out, the guy was a vile & disgusting cheater. He sold his "record setting bat" at least 6 times, for example. I've read that no one in baseball had a good thing to say about him, other than his stats.
Keep the steroid monsters out too, but that's hard because they didn't get caught at the time :/
His stats are all that should matter. He never cheated as a player.
Never cheated as a player or coach... that we can prove.
The betting seems to have started after he began coaching, afaik.
His betting is proven though, that's enough to keep him out. If the league had actually cared about the 'roid monsters they would have been caugth too & kept out as well.
The drug (cocaine!) addicts though, they were caught & still get into the Hall... 😑 so there's that too.
Joe batted .375 and OBP of near 400 for that series.
Pete claims he only bet on his own team, to my knowledge no one has been able to cite any games where signs of impropriety took place. One can argue he has insider knowledge and can put in relief aces on days he really needed that W. Okay, even that can look sus and I never heard dates cited.
Given how incestuous MLB and all professional sports are with gambling theses days they don't have a leg to stand on.
Just put them in the new FanDuel's Ultimate Degen Wing and close the book on this stupid debate once and for all.
Wait, I thought betting "on your own team" WAS the worst possible crime?
Betting on games you have no influence over (or insider knowledge of) would be almost excusable, but still against the rules.
Betting on your team to win OR lose is dirty. Disgraceful. That MLB loves gambling now isn't relevant, Rose broke the biggest rule & invalidates his entire career.
