We really have a problem of not being able to move past 'franchises' in the West don't we?
I mean in Asia they make new characters every week, they just merchandise off a successful series. I can still get merch off series like Stein's Gate and FMA Brotherhood and they'll not be in a bargin bin or in this case, landfill because people still have a good, positive impression off that series decades on from it finishing.
Yep. They can release new merch of a 10 year old anime. As long as good quality and price is right, itll sell. Meanwhile.. all the dc, marvel, disney crap goes to clearance or bargin bin.
That's the symptom, not the problem. The problem is that the degenerate left has successfully seized gatekeeping positions. They are simultaneously dependent on and resentful of the old works because they are blasphemous against their ideology, but their ideology can only create ugliness to replace it.

Yet another case of investors ruining everything.
And copyright law. No need to take a risk on new characters when popular old ones can be milked for decades.
