Well, they would, but every time they try, they fail. I wonder why... Japan manages to do it every single season, so it can't be the market that's at fault, market's working just fine...
Behold the genius of Black [AF] by Kwanza Osajyefo, published by Black Mask comics!
“A young black person gets shot by police. This time, he gets up, discovering that he’s more powerful than he ever could have imagined.
In a time when the African-American community’s fraught relationship with the police is making headlines across the world, BLACK is shaping up to be a superhero comic ripped right out of some of modern America’s biggest social issues.”

That sounds like absolute dogshit, but I'd much rather they try new stuff and maybe appease some niche audience than demolishing long-standing institutions out of spite.
It's because Marvel and DC employ shit writers. If you want good comics you don't read Marvel or DC.
There's plenty of relatively new superheroes, they just aren't in Marvel or DC.
I swear to god the western comic industry would improve my orders of magnitude if everyone involved in Marvel and DC just dropped off the face of the earth. Those two publishers are holding the industry back so hard.
They need to just make new superheros.

Oh they did make new characters!
