There's a disturbingly large number of men who are still stuck on a combo of 'Women are wonderful', simping, and... Hmmm. Not sure how to phrase it. Paternalism? They adopt a sort of unconscious, subliminal assumption that all women are just poor, poor meek little things that need men's help, and so bend over backwards to accommodate them - through law, through hiring decisions, though constant deference and not acknowledging the privilege women have.
It's why you get that twisted united front of feminism and evangelical Christian types, as you say.
