Probably an attempt to get more 'victim class minorities' as a higher percentage along with toxic women using suicide as a chain to keep their partners from leaving them.
I remember this loosely, women perform the most suicide ATTEMPTS as they usually do it as a cry for help/attention and they care about how their body is found after so are more likely to do poison, cutting etc ways that can be saved with immediate first aid.
Men generally don't care and have a higher percentage of successful suicide acts as they'll get a gun blow their brains out, jump off a cliff, into a speeding train, tell cops they'll kill everyone etc they just want it done with quick. Combine that with MTF makes the majority of trans and more of them are likely to do the mutilation than FTM, welcome to why they'd want to shift the narrative.
Once read elsewhere that women's attempted suicide is to act out in a dramatic fashion as a cry for help.
A man's attempted suicide is to quietly stare at a loaded gun for an hour before putting it away.
I have a feeling the numbers are alot worse, are always in men's 'favor', and we'll never really know the whole picture barring some omniscient narrator.
I've searched a little in the mensrights sub, and I couldn't find a source specifically mentioning that. It is pretty likely that someone self-reporting an attempt to a doctor or another reporting "authority" would be counted, so that could be what the OP is referring to.
As others have and will point out, methods can vary widely in effectiveness, which makes trying to qualify "legitimate" suicide attempts difficult.
It makes sense in a fucked up way since women's "attempts" are usually about getting attention instead of going through with it.

There’s also impulsivity vs not…
Of course, this varies massively from person to person, but I think men might… Consider it for longer, before actually following through…
Which feeds back into choice of method, etc.
Like, it’s something they’ve considered for some time, before… They just can’t take it anymore.
But yeah, that’s the problem with people misunderstanding it and thinking that all suicides/attempts are the same…
A grim comparison for suicides:
A woman's suicide attempt is your classic slit the wrists in the bathtub after leaving a note or message, slow but can be stopped by quick first aid
Men's suicide is like Aokigahara forest in Japan, unless you truly make the effort to look, you won't find ALL the bodies.
I wonder what the stats say about tranny suicide. Do they attempt in ways that align with their sex or their supposed gender?
If you want something done right, you get a man to do it.

The last I remember hearing, suicide attempts weren't tracked. The actual stat was really "serious acts of self-harm."
> I'm gonna kill myself
> I'm gonna kill myself
> I'm gonna kill myself
> I'm gonna kill myself
> I'm gonna kill myself
5 attempts in 5 seconds. Nice
If that's true that would mean they weren't able to paint women as poor victims anymore even with the idiotic old way of counting
The stats for men must be horrifying atm.
A whole wall of text and not a single citation.
Society is increasingly fucked, so this doesn't surprise me in the slightest.
