What kind of word salad is this? I get my last name from my white ggg grandfather who had a child with his slave and a few generations later here I am. Never bothered me, and I’m sure I’m not the only one in the history of world slavery that is the descendant of the master. I have bigger things to deal with and Smith is a very convenient last name. NBC really has nothing better to write about. If you want to give your kids an African name then fine, but why this deserves an article is beyond me.
Well my parents raised me to be a proud American (military family) and I do feel like the only one who doesn’t see oppression everywhere. I understand my DNA make up but considering all my ancestors were here by 1800, I don’t see any reason not to see myself as American. Like every other country America has done bad things but I’d rather be loyal to the country that eventually freed my ancestors and gave them citizenship over the ones who enslaved them and sold them.

You must be the only black man on the planet not undergoing an identity crisis.
