English is a weird language and us Americans made it much much weirder
In all realistic fairness, English is the overwhelmingly most diverse language in human history. If other languages were forced to compete then they would be just as bastardized
Also pretty weird are a lot of American-based phrases. Was watching some random show on it and I realized just how many weird ones we have, and how incredibly obscure their meaning can be unless you're already used to hearing and using them.
I'm sure there's phrases from other languages/cultures that would be just as confusing to me too, but it was kind of an amusing eye opener nonetheless.
According to her aunt it’s African, the media sources say Hindu origin from the word and her aunt as the other source but no secondary source for it being an actual “African” name.
What kind of word salad is this? I get my last name from my white ggg grandfather who had a child with his slave and a few generations later here I am. Never bothered me, and I’m sure I’m not the only one in the history of world slavery that is the descendant of the master. I have bigger things to deal with and Smith is a very convenient last name. NBC really has nothing better to write about. If you want to give your kids an African name then fine, but why this deserves an article is beyond me.
Well my parents raised me to be a proud American (military family) and I do feel like the only one who doesn’t see oppression everywhere. I understand my DNA make up but considering all my ancestors were here by 1800, I don’t see any reason not to see myself as American. Like every other country America has done bad things but I’d rather be loyal to the country that eventually freed my ancestors and gave them citizenship over the ones who enslaved them and sold them.
including her parents, who she said gave her an African name to demonstrate their pride and hope in who she might become. Elsewhere, she recounted that an aunt who was a Peace Corps volunteer in West Africa suggested Ketanji Onyika, telling her parents it meant “lovely one.”
Jackson was born in 1970, and the name she was given by her parents was part of a trend in the Civil Rights era in which African Americans chose ethnic names as a mark of racial pride and self-determination.
Shortly before the accusations started rolling in Bill Cosby made lefties mad because he said black parents should stop giving kids ridiculous names. My brother’s wife is Asian and she was telling me a lot of them give their kids like an American first or middle name. Makes sense to go with the when in Rome mentality. If I moved to another country and planned on staying I’d do something like that with my kids
Ketanji is an African name?
Thought it was just one of the fake names that some American blacks insist on giving their kids.

Hence its weirdness.

I had a friend from Africa -i forget where- that complained about this. So many people have named themselves after monsters or random animals.
A lot of them also take Islamic and Arabic names. To show their appreciation for the religion that did not bother to let black men keep their cocks.
A turd by any other name would smell as foul.

You must be the only black man on the planet not undergoing an identity crisis.

Hell yeah!
