I’m actually not sure I agree with this. I don’t seek them out, but I also do not think this whole “hurr durr, if you watch When Harry Met Sally or the Wedding Crashers [or whatever] you must be gay!” schtick is overly healthy…
Let people enjoy what they want, honestly.
Not every rom com ever made is a steaming pile of shit. Much like not every “Action Movie” ever is any good at all.
I’ve never been fond of this stereotype. And yet, guess what? I am most definitely not gay.
Me neither. I enjoy all the “manly things” but I’ve seen some rom cons that were good as I’ve read some romance novels. Although originally as a teen I read them to get insight on meeting women
Completely agreed on all counts. Though I don’t think I’ve ever read a romance novel per se (does Don Quixote count?).
See, I never got “taught” any of that stuff. No siblings, no older male cousins, abusive parents, abusive extended family. And I was too “proud” to ask my male friends for tips. So, much like you, I watched goddamn Hollywood and whatever, to try and gain some of those insights…
Some people don’t seem to get this, but exactly as you said…
Does it make them “accurate”? Of course not, lol. But after innumerable failures with girls, I guess it was better than nothing, lol…
Shame he didn't have the balls to directly call women out.
It isn't straight men who watch romcoms, regardless of topic.
