Lucas' only personality traits are that he's the black kid, he's kind of an asshole, and he insists on calling a slingshot a wrist rocket. So in a sense, yeah, people don't like him because of his race, because that's pretty much all he is.
Oh yeah, and there's also the fact that the disgusting fujoshi who insisted that all these boys had to have buttseks with each other despite barely beginning puberty when the show began don't get wet off black people either.
At least in the south (don't know about Indiana) the style of slingshot with a wrist brace that he was using is referred to as a "wrist rocket" to distinguish it from the much less harmful slingshot. I've seen someone put a large hole in a five gallon drywall compound bucket with a wrist rocket so the distinction is important.
