the Justice Department’s best arguments supporting it, including the affidavit, are being made public
No, you dishonest cretin. Even WaPo admits it's expected to be heavily redacted.
That's not making it public, that's making some portion of it public. Some portion that's no doubt supposed to make Trump look as bad as possible while not exposing the shaky ground it likely lies on.
those same advisers began to take the position privately that the real problem was not that Trump had the documents, but that he had returned any at all, sparking an investigation
It's good advice should never apologize to leftists because they'll see it as a sign of weakness and use it against you. I think much the same thing applies here.
the redactions are absurd. paragraphs 26-46 at pages 9-16 are entirely reacted (with 2 small exceptions). Then 48-52, then 54-60, 62-76 & 78.
In other words, 100% of the actual information that would allow the public to make an independent determination as to whether probable cause did, in fact, exist, was entirely redacted. Total bullshit. As a matter of Constitutional due process, Trump has the right to see everything in order to challenge the propriety of the warrant, which is impossible for him to do if there are redactions.
You know why a lot of Chinese spies get let off the hook with a slap on the wrist? Because charging and prosecuting them means the government has to reveal sources and methods as a matter of due process. So I guess Trump gets less protection from the US Constitution than Chinese spies.
I wonder how many people still believe that classification is legitimately meant to protect “national security” and not simply to cover up the corrupt and criminal behavior of our government.
We knew the redactions would be annoying but when people were saying it would come out ALL black, I honestly thought they were joking. It's like a Babylon Bee prediction come true.
They are just mocking all of us now, rubbing our faces in the fact that they can do whatever the hell they want, even to a currently sworn in President.
Speaking as a potential juror in a jury box, no one is guilty of Federal charges from this point forward. I don't care what the charges are, or how bad the person being charged is, the entire Federal law enforcement apparatus is corrupt to the core, and the only way to force them to reel their necks in is to acquit everyone they charge, period dot.
I don't talk to cops from this point forward, either. Even in a deposition, or on the stand. I'll take jail time over talking to cops, because they are not kicking these federal stasi agents out of their cities our counties.

a 32 page probable cause affidavit is absurd.

They might as well have thrown in a note telling critics they refuse to actually release the document.
Just finished looking through it. Redacted is an understatement.

Going to be one long black bar
