Execs already calling critics of The Rings Of Power Racists - so they think the show will suck as well (boundingintocomics.com)

This is one of the things I really don't get about the Rangz of Powah series.

You've got Galadriel - bloody Galadriel - as some ninja warrior elf.

Galadriel, niece of Fëanor. She is one of the strongest magic users in the entire story. She can dismiss the Nine without struggle. Holding a pointy bit of tin is a hell of a step down for her.

You'd think a strong female character waving all the problems away would be right up their ally, but nope.

Unless it's the Mary Sue logic that their chosen self-insert must dominate in all areas. Can't have a rounded character, with strengths and weaknesses, because that would be problematic.

Mary Sue logic

So we can expect Galadriel to pause, close her eyes, take a deep breath, then say "I am all the Quendi Elves!" before she 360 backflip no-scopes Morgoth because just like the Witch King no hwite man can kill him!

She can dismiss the Nine without struggle.

Isn't that a Hobbit trilogy thing and not represented in any actual writings?

e: In Tolkien's writings strength is usually spiritual strength. The Witch-king was imbued with additional physical strength at the Battle of the Pelennor Fields but normally the wraiths are no physically stronger than men. Their power is in the fear they create which Galadriel would be immune to, and they would likely fear her as they feared Glorfindel. So if they nutted up and attacked her they would win easily but that would be like a group of men nutting up and fighting a ringwraith; they would win but it's unlikely that they would ever try.

The Hobbit movies had Galadriel defeat Sauron in Dol Guldur by hulking out and using Nenya (making her resemble her 'beautiful and terrible' Ring-bearing queen form), which is fucking ridiculous. Sauron is a Maia, or angel (albeit fallen) in Tolkien's cosmology, like Gandalf or Saruman or the Balrog, and Maiar are well above any Elf in power. IIRC it was Saruman & Elrond who fought the Ringwraiths in that particular scene, while Galadriel was focused on protecting Gandalf from Sauron.

While First Age Elves did fight Balrogs, only one was able to win - Glorfindel, who killed the Balrog chieftain Gothmog at the cost of his own life; and Gothmog in turn had previously killed Fëanor, canonically the greatest and mightiest Elf ever, although he needed the help of a small army of his fellows to do it. Sauron, of course, is mightier than the Balrogs (which was why he was Morgoth's #2 guy and not Gothmog) and even in his maimed Ringless form would've been more than a match for Saruman (hence why he just gave up and joined Sauron later) & Gandalf (at least as 'the Grey'), much less Galadriel.

Ahh, I couldn't remember if I'd seen that in a film or read it in a book. I've not read Hobbit anything like as much as I have LotR

Tolkien wrote his story for a specific group. Anyone is free to read it. I despise the term “reflecting a modern world”. Pretty arrogant. It’s like me reading some Japanese literature and demanding that it change for me

I actually am planning on buying that book soon. I remember going to the theater to see Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and absolutely loving it. Never once was I upset about representation

Well, of course, I was parodying. And you'll love it. It used to be pretty easy to find in paperback in the used book stores, too, if you just want a physical copy for cheap.

I’ll check my used book store first. If it’s not there I’ll go on Amazon. Have you seen the mini series?

Yes, but I was 12, and quite a lot of things went on for me that year. Wasn't much older when I read the book, and damnit, sometimes I forget how much time has passed since this and that.

So predictable. Butcher someone else’s work and then cry that people who actually respect the work are racist. I’m surprised they didn’t do that with wheel of time

I think they thought that WoT will be a success but have less faith in this one. Or they want more attention as I do not think there is to much hype for The Rings of Power

With the Wheel of Time I lost all faith when I saw the casting and the first thing the showrunner discussed was lgbt representation I knew it would be garbage. Plus I heard that they mess up the storyline and change things to give the females even more spotlight.

I lost all faith after the showrunner said his favorite character was Egwene, and the race casting

What is nuts is that the books are full of female characters with authority. Also once they leave their town they meet people of different races. Look at Matt’s wife for example. Yet that wasn’t enough for Amazon.

We really should just keep pointing out what happens to her in the end. Not that I expect the showrunner to stick to that, rather instead pull a Filoni and prevent his waifu from getting killed.

I gave up when I read that Perrin killed his wife in episode 1.

What a pointless, stupid change. In the books, Perrin wasn't married. If the showrunners are willing to make huge, pointless changes like that to the first episode, it says nothing positive about what they'll do to the rest of the show.

Yea he didn’t get married til a number of books later. Also I heard they showed moraine in a lesbian relationship. I know the books mention pillow friends but they didnt spend an excessive amount of time on it. Plus she married a dude by the end of the books.

Ugh so stupid. I just do not understand the Hollywood mindset (seen in Wheel of Time, Lord of the Rings, Star Trek, Star Wars, etc) that basically says "You know these hugely successful and beloved by generations of fans works? Fuck it, I'm a 30-something millennial who got 'famous' for being on Survivor and I know better than Robert Jordan."

Even then JKR wrote HP to still possibly include Nevil as a/the Chosen One which is why his parents were tortured then murdered because said Chosen One was meant to be born around a specific time and both Harry and Nevil applied. While Harry carries the lion's [heh] share of the burden Nevil does later on play a significant part in destroying the big bad by pulling off a Crowning Moment of Awesome [pulling the Gryffendor sword out the Sorting Hat] and killing/destroying the final Horcrux.

Neither the books or the films made any allusions Harry wasn't the protag though despite the importance Nevil might play nor when he did play that role.

Enough of this shit.

Time for more people to start following the lead of someone like Charlie Kirk or Matt Gaetz.

There's no reason ever to cave to these bogus accusations, and more people--black AND white--are getting wise to anti-white race-baiting.

The blackwashing of cinema will end once it's understood to be a guarantee of box-office disaster.

There's this fat manlet Indian on TikTok who has carved out a niche in Tolkien content - he had some pretty good stuff. Then, hilariously, Amazon paid him to visit a showing and suddenly he was extremely interested in attacking anybody critical of the production. Funny to watch.
