I don't think Trump is necessarily "on our side," but I don't think his election went well for a lot of PTB, either. It gave hope to and redpilled a lot of people they want to exclude from the political system. I think he is a self-interested rich guy whose main interest is his own exposure, but the bar for guys who can get elected President is very low. I think some PTB expected Trump to be good for them, and he did cut their taxes. But opposition was fragmented. The last election demonstrates that it is no longer. If they want to keep Trump out, they will, no matter his general popularity.
