GamerGate is mentioned in passing in this Glee reminiscence recently posted on Instapundit, which I then reposted on the Ace of Spades HQ comm on Gab (we're a pretty chill group, if you're on Gab, maybe join us):
When the social history of a fandom reads like "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich." I haven't read anything like this since the story of MsScribe in the HP fandom.
By the way, if fandom horror stories are to your liking, I heartily recommend reading the novella-length Story of MsScribe. When the preface/intro were originally published, it quickly reached 80+ pages of comments. It all went down in 2001–03 and was exposed in 2006.
You want to know why I don't care about a little net.drama around Tim Pool or the Quartering? Because I know what real #toxicity looks like, especially when wrapped in #feminism, and there it all is!

Explains why the lead 'dude' 41ed himself
No one single thing started it
Certainly not. Promotion of diversity and degeneracy is as old as art.
What is more probable is Glee may have had one of the first instances of a large social media response from the audience indicating their desire for more diversity. Something like that, especially with how relatively new social media was, might have accelerated the inevitable.
