2021 figures for the Epic Games Store have been published. They didn't do as badly as I thought.

Wait, you can buy games on Epic? I thought it was just a way for me to get free games that I'll probably never play.
The $300 doesn't include the amount of money that Epic provided to third-party developers/publishers for timed exclusives, or making their games "free," so third-party games made more revenue than what players spent.
I wonder what Steam's sales are, since it still shows most people use Epic for first party and free games (based on sales)
$300 million in 3rd party sales. $18 billion worth of free games given away. Assuming the free game's devs/publishers were smart enough to negotiate an agreement that netted them at least 2% of the retail value of the units epic was giving away then they're already at a net less for 3rd party games.
And that's not including all they paid out for the exclusivity deals, which were allegedly so lavish that one dev claimed the exclusivity payment alone was enough for make their game profitable, even if all their customers refunded in protest and they sold 0 units.
EGS is just shovelling money into a pit hoping people forget about their shitty exclusivity deals.
And people say Fortnite is dying.
Saying that, they also have Rocket League (woke fuck developers need to be fired) and Fall Guys as 1st party titles.
People say it DESERVES to die. Personally I disagree, I think Fortnite is very useful to effectively quarantine the kind of people who play Fortnite.
A lot of franchises deserve to be put out of their misery. Need for Speed, Battlefield, Rainbow 6, Mass Effect. (Wow, three of those are EA.)
I don't think there's anything wrong with Fortnite. What other games are like it that aren't horribly woke? (Fuck Apex Legends)
Hunt Showdown is still a personal favorite of mine.
Epic also announced a large update to the EGS today, user reviews are finally coming.
Is it time for the raging dumpster fire that is Steam to get an actual rival?
That's it? 300 million?
