Linus and Luke from LTT tried to game on linux for a month.
It didn't go well.
Linux still has a long way to go to be a viable play-anything-on-a-whim platform, and to be frank, due to the nature of the way Linux is developed, I don't see that changing in the near future.
Your sales figures are indicative of that, only the hardest of hard core geeks drive linux for daily driving and gaming.
I personally have flirted with the idea of going linux full time, but I am long past the stage in my own relationship with tech that I find tinkering for the sake of tinkering fun. I just want games to work, and I can't get that with linux.
Linus managed to completely uninstall his desktop enviroment because he couldn't read the line of text that said "don't do this unless you know what you're doing!"
He also said that if all you care about is writing word documents and browsing boomerbook, you could rice Linux to look like Windows and never know the difference.
Also, if you're playing games on PC, regardless of OS, you should be used to having to look up shit, tweak files, and fix issues. You should be used to be treated like a second class.
I'm not going to say that Linux is perfect and ready for the "mainstream". But the reality is that some people are too fucking stupid to make mashed potatoes.
