It isn't necessarily about forgiveness. In general I believe companies and stockholders should be rewarded for good behavior, as long as they have some metric showing what's working and what isn't. This works better if there are competitors and the company hasn't already dedicated itself to some ideological niche. (which they are more likely to do if all the mainstream customers quit)
