Fuck off, Feige. You cast a weird looking white woman SPECIFICALLY to avoid casting a Tibetan man. You admitted this. You claimed it was necessary to not be banned in China. You regret the 'white' part only. Fuck off entirely.
That was literally the most irritating thing. We wanted a more 'diverse' character than the woke crowd at the time because that was the lore and also what made sense in-universe. Now that the narrative has changed, he has to weasel-word his way back in the other direction.
Ironically, the only thing he isn't probably lying about is that they couldn't show it in China with a Tibetan character.
Shit you not, he goes on record saying he regrets it, but not for the reasons you'd think. Because of the flap over the Shang Chi actors bitching about the lack of Asian representation he's pontificating over how they could have gotten a non-huwite actor/actress in the part - and apparently dodge the whole "we can't cast a Tibetan Ancient One or we'll lose money in China" aspect at the same time.
The wokeness don't stop, that's for sure...

That wasn't the issue. Tibet is for China.
That was the cover reason pushed by the media, that the Ancient One was based on racist stereotypes so it was the correct choice to change him.
It's one thing to obviously lie about the justification for race swapping a character, but to then use that lie as the basis for "starting a conversation" is enough to make me hate this man. He's no better than the assholes who use black-on-asian violence as an excuse to talk about white supremacy.
I'd pretty much guarantee it's going to. For starters, they've lost the Marvel Movie Momentum. Endgame and COVID killed that, and even though the D+ series are getting decent numbers, that likely won't translate to box office bucks.
Secondly, the only people that really give a damn about Shang Chi are the people that remember him from the '70s, and Marvel has rewritten his entire backstory to modernize it and "woke" it up. You're not going to draw a new audience without letting on as to what the new plotline is, and you're not going to pull in the old guard (like me) with the new wokeness. On top of that, you've got the star shooting his mouth off about representation, Feige bowing and scraping, and the hordes of SocJus Bluechecks waiting in the wings to go on record about how the movie failed because everyone else out there is racist.
Yeah, it's going to be a grade-A shitshow.
D+? I'd say Black Falcon and Bucky was a solid F.
