If they followed their own logic they'd do the same thing for the seasonal flu vaccine, but they never talk about that.
One of my co-workers is one of those, "you're killing grandma if you don't get the Covid vaccine" types. He's 34 and he's never gotten the seasonal flu vaccine.
Only because people are not as scared of the seasonal flu, so that would evoke more outrage.
Tell them seasonal flu killed 30K yearly on average; 80K when H1N1 happened. Then tell them they're selfish human beings for not caring about 30K people dying every year.
I mean they don't really care. It's tribal moral signalling. The "good people" hate the jew...wait...I mean hate the protestant...no wait...hate the soiux...wait no sorry having trouble remember which tribe we're supposed to hate...hate the green bay packer...wait...
Well I can't keep straight which "other tribe" / "outgroup" it is this time, but their emotions are based on hating the other group and their words are simply rationalizations towards that goal.
They don't care about killing people when they see those people in the "out" group.
This comment is absurdly reductive. It's insane to suggest that no tribe of people has ever had legitimate reason to hate, dislike, or oppose another tribe of people.
