why do gamers seem to be the only people with backspine left in the world? have all the based people escaped into gaming.

We're the kinds of people who go out of our way to be challenged in our free time.

You would have thought that Punk, Metal, and Comic Books frankly would have taken a harder stance on the encroachment of Social Justice.

  • Metal kind of ignored it and remained more niche
  • Punk was completely taken over by it
  • Comic Books just fucking killed itself

Except... You know who controls those industries, right?

Metal and punk both had the opposition to authority thing going but the problem is, at the end of the day, musical subcultures are about listening to the music and presenting yourself a certain way. It's still about fitting in. Comics less so, but that's about enjoying a form of media and not much beyond that.

Gamers (for better or worse) give relatively few fucks how they present themselves. They're also stubborn, objective-based, used to thinking several turns in advance, practiced at pattern recognition, and pathologically allergic to imbalanced application of rules. Plus there's a huge number of gamers, they're spread out internationally, and they've have lots of communication pathways.

I'd also like to think gamers are less prone to falling into purity spirals because gaming isn't necessarily an identity. That's why it's important to offer pushback or mockery to advertising hype like "CLOTHES FOR GAMERS" or whatever. Even if it's just someone trying to hawk hoodies, it builds conformity and that can be exploited later.

Punk has been taken over? I’m so out of the loop but clash, bad brains, and ramones are my favorites

Dude, punk is straight up dead.

People are praising Green Day as the pinnacle of punk and talking about the inclusiveness of punk to gender non-conforming types.

I tried looking for the youtube video I remember watching a few years ago where a bunch of feminists were talking about how they could end misogyny in Punk, but I couldn't find it.

Punks dead. So many anti-establishment tunes that still find absolute relevance, but their creators are oblivious.

The wokeness of something is proportional to the amount of women represented in it, until they reach the majority, where wokeness is thrown overboard if it crosses their superiority complex.

Take a hobby that women used to mock until recently and have it followed mostly by men and that obvious cynicism to their desire to enter is the barrier.

Oh oh, I know one, warhammer 40k and how women are bitching nowadays because there cant be female space marines because men and women genetics are different. That one is double effective because you also tell the trannies to fuck off

I think a lot of comedians still do as well, but yes, the segments of the populace that have a spine are definitely getting few and far between
