Or perhaps it was that they don't need a test, which I can only assume is because asymptomatic cases weren't considered a concern at the time. It's not on their guidelines page anymore, I can only find articles referencing it, not the passage on the CDC's site itself.

Asymptomatic people do not have a high enough viral load in their throats to infect others. Even if they coughed right in your face it's still very, very unlikely that you would get the virus from them.
Here's a good video about this exact topic. It's quite long and you can slim through the first 10 minutes or so but it's worth watching.

I appreciate the response, and with what I know I agree, but I wanted the instance of the CDC acknowledging it because it's useful for arguing with reddit trogs.
Probably not something I should care about, but eh, thrill of the battle, right?
That said your video looks interesting so I'm probably gonna watch it lol.
Masturbation isn't productive either but a lot of us still do it lol
Based on what I had time to watch from the video u/censorthisss linked I think you might be right, at least in effect.
Eh, that's not true.
You can be healthy without the virus, healthy with the virus (asymptomatic carrier), or sick with the virus. There's nothing Orwellian about it.
The only time being asymptomatic means you're not healthy is when you're not actually asymptomatic, you're just presymtomatic.
Was common knowledge you could give others a cold a day or two before you actually felt sick. Not 2 weeks bullshit with the commie coof. And the key point there is, you actually got symptoms yourself.
If you test positive for the commie coof and you never had or have any symptoms, you're not sick.
If you don't have enough tests to go around, it makes sense to test those people who are both more likely to be infected and more likely to spread the disease to others if they are infected. Coughing and sneezing significantly increases people's exposure to your bodily fluids - which is why evolution selects for these traits - but even an asymptomatic carrier is still going to be doing things that can expose the people they associate with.
